You get the sense that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is slowly but surely preparing to involve running back Le’Veon Bell into his offense more and more. After not joining the team until Sept. 1, these first few games are opportunities for the two-time Pro Bowler to get back into the groove of being a workhorse performer.
He only totaled 13 touches in the win over the Cleveland Browns. And he may not get a lot more opportunities against this Minnesota Vikings defense. Let’s not forget that prior to taking over the top job in the Twin Cities, Mike Zimmer spent a lot of time trying to figure out Todd Haley’s offense when the former was defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals.
The feeling here is that the Steelers are indeed the better team. But this may not be the right time for Tomlin’s club to square off against a fresh Minnesota defensive unit that may be coming off a short week but is pretty deep up front. Meanwhile, you have to like what you see from Dalvin Cook and a Vikings offensive unit that may have gained a little confidence last week despite the caliber of the opposition.
Look for Zimmer and company to take advantage of the Steelers’ front-seven, which may be determined to punish quarterback Sam Bradford while missing the boat on Cook. We see a defensive TD from the Vikings, one offensive touchdown and four field goals in a mini-surprise at Heniz Field. Timing is everything.
Final Score: Minnesota Vikings: 26, Pittsburgh Steelers: 24
