In Week 2, the Eagles will face off against a familiar face – even if it’s only familiar to the head coach and a handful of players – when they visit Andy Reid and the Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Most of the players who were here under Reid have since moved on, and the longtime Eagles coach hasn’t faced his former team since Week 3 of the 2013 season, when the Chiefs came in to the Linc and beat up on Chip Kelly’s Birds, 26-16, despite 264 rushing yards for the home team, 158 coming from LeSean McCoy and another 99 from quarterback Michael Vick.
But now, instead of facing the guy who replaced him, Reid will be going up against a former protege in Doug Pederson, who spent several years under Reid as both a player and assistant coach for the Eagles, as well as three seasons as his offensive coordinator in Kansas City, including during that 2013 win over the Birds.
As we said, a lot has changed since then.
In addition to this game being played in Kansas City as opposed to Philly, the Eagles are coming in as the underdog – back in 2013, they were a 3.5-point favorite to beat the Chiefs.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This will be the seventh time these two teams have played each other in the history of both franchises. The Chiefs have the slight edge in terms of wins at 4-3. They haven’t played each other since 2013, during the Eagles’ Chip Kelly era. The Chiefs won the game 26-16 in Reid’s first game back at Lincoln Financial Field after being fired by the Eagles following the 2012 season. The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the Chiefs, and also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning record.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs were outstanding in the league opener last Thursday night in Foxborough stunning the Patriots 42-27. Alex Smith threw for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns, while rookie Kareem Hunt manufactured 246 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns. But the win came at an expense, with the loss of All-Pro Safety Eric Berry. Berry ruptured his Achilles tendon and is expected to miss the entire season.
The Eagles flew over the Redskins 30-17 in week 1. Carson Wentz used 9 different receivers in passing for 307 yards and 2 touchdowns in the victory. Both CB Ronald Darby (dislocated ankle) and K Caleb Sturgis (hip) will miss this game. The Eagles offence should be able to take advantage of a Chiefs team shorthanded in the secondary (Eric Berry). Look for a bounce back game from receiver Alshon Jeffrey who had just 38 yards on 3 catches in week 1.
